Our Team

Our Passion

Contributing to Wellbeing and Economic Development

Our team is comprised of experienced individuals who have a deep understanding of the culture, challenges, and needs of our clients. We are passionate about contributing to the wellbeing and economic development of the most vulnerable in the communities we serve.

Dr. Charlayne Hayling-Williams

President & Co-Founder

Dr. Charlayne Hayling-Williams discovered her passion for behavioral health early on at the age 13. She knew then that there are fundamental principles that binds us all as humans – an innate desire to be understood is among the most central. She brings this knowing forth daily in the normalization of mental health and wellness, and her unwavering commitment to partnering with community toward equity and progress.

Having a family of civil rights activists, community leaders, and medical professionals exposed Dr. Hayling-Williams to the harsh realities of racism, poverty, and health disparities in the black community. While her own educational pursuits could have easily landed her a “traditionally” prestigious appointment, Dr. Hayling-Williams took a different course and chose to work in the trenches to do the good and necessary work of improving the lived conditions of those who need it most.

Though she is no stranger to the classroom, her greatest teachers have been the everyday people she serves. Now, her evidence-based research and hands-on experience form the foundation for a transformative model of care that brings together essential behavioral health, medical, and social services for the most vulnerable populations. A sought-after speaker, Dr. Hayling-Williams’ work has garnered attention from some of the largest public organizations, media outlets, professional think tanks, and industry conferences, where she shares her unique perspective and insights as a transformational leader for change. Her vision for Community Wellness Ventures is to contribute to the development of a revolutionary results-based system of care where individuals have the care, support, and resources they need to BE WELL and thrive.

Dr. Rod Williams

Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder

Dr. Rod Williams is no stranger to the plight of disinvested communities. Born and raised in rural Mississippi, Dr. Williams’ commitment to community and economic development is both personal and longstanding. Delivering properties of the highest quality and working within community partnerships are paramount in Dr. Williams’ business philosophy. Over the decades, he has forged many public/private partnerships. Dr. Williams believes the two concepts, quality and community partnership, are inextricably linked. This approach is central to CWV’s whole-person, integrative approach that acknowledges the essential role of housing in healthcare.

With more than 20 years of direct experience in affordable housing and community development, Dr. Williams uniquely combines the roles of practitioner and theoretician, participant and policymaker. Previously, Dr. Williams was involved in a wide variety of commercial and residential real estate transactions as a consultant for R&C Consulting, Inc. and is a licensed Realtor in multiple jurisdictions. Dr. Williams earned his doctorate in Public Policy with a specialization in community and economic development in order to bridge the gap between policy and practice.

Now, he brings his wealth of experience to the development of Community Wellness Ventures’ Wellness Villages that offer affordable housing and comprehensive health and community services to its residents all under one roof. Dr. Williams believes this unified approach is the most effective and efficient way to deliver supportive housing options toward a true continuum of housing and health interventions that combat the effects of poverty.

CWV Client

L. Askew, 53, walked into the back of the Community Wellness Ventures just down the block from Busboys and Poets. It was the mental health clinic’s first day running a public coronavirus vaccine clinic, and it was Askew’s first time showing up to get a shot. "I was unsure for a while, just listening to other people, I’d heard bad things," Askew said. "But then people from this center called me, and they’ve done a lot for me in the past. So I said, I’m ready." "Plus," Askew said, beaming. "I’ve got a brand new grandson, and I gotta be here for him.
